Where am I?

WHERE AM I?
You are able to see the long white cloud stretching across the land.
You are able to see long bay across the coast filled with swimmers and lifeguards.
The height of the famous tower is 328 meters high. You are able to see the towering heights up above the Ground

Red

Red looks like lava erupting from a volcano, engulfing everything in its path in flames.
Red looks like a majestic sunset on a beautiful summer day.
Red smells like a delicious apple pie and tomato sauce.
Red tastes like yummy, fiery pizza and spicy ghost pepper.
Red feels like the warm, cozy sun.
Red feels like rose petals touching my skin.
Red reminds me of fire destroying everything in its path.
Red reminds me of the blood we contain in our veins.
Red is hot, furious and represents anger.

Why kids should be in-charge speech

Why kids should be in charge
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if kids were in charge?  Well, I'll tell you just how they'll get there.

Firstly, kids know lots when it comes to technology- such as phones,  internet, social media and video games. Kids are fast learners, can easily adapt to new environments and will use technology to share new ideas with everyone. Spending the right amount of time on their devices can help them learn, improve and excel on their skills.

Talking about video games, probably all of you have heard of Nintendo. This is a world wide franchise with their most famous best selling games - Mario. Mario is one of Nintendo’s first games . Did you know… the first Mario game was made on the first of June 1983?...........Okay, kids can get distracted sometimes too. So, let’s go back to my topic about why kids should be in charge.

My second reason why I believe kids should be in charge is that kids have lots of energy.  They love playing with their friends and getting stronger in many different ways. They love running around with their friends and playing tag and sports together. They interact and learn together, sometimes they make mistakes but they can also learn from these mistakes to become more confident and be more aware of the importance of sharing.

Finally, kids think differently to adults. Adults sometimes worry too much about their children. They can overthink on small issues which kids can resolve within seconds, for example what’s for dinner, what clothes you are going to wear today and which movie to watch at the cinema.

To sum up what I have said, I think and hopefully all of you would agree with me that kids are smart, adaptive and can look after themselves. This is why I truly believe kids should be in-charge. Put your hands up if you agree with me?

Matariki Vs Pleiades

Introduction - Arina
Friday the 15th of June marks the day of the Maori New Year also known as Matariki. Matariki is a time to honour those who have passed away and think about our future. Matariki is also the name for a cluster of stars seen in the sky over Aotearoa in late May or early June. The star cluster Matariki is also known by another name, Pleiades. Matariki and Pleiades share many similarities and differences

Cultural Myths - Georgia
One similarity is that both Matariki and Pleiades are important cultural events. Matariki comes from the Maori people of Aotearoa, where as Pleiades comes from Greece in Southern Europe.

English Meaning - Isaac
Both Pleiades and Matariki have English names. Matariki is translated in English as the eyes of god or little eyes. However Pleiades is known in English as the seven sisters.

Sisters - Caroline
Both Matariki and Pleiades feature stories including sisters. For many Maori Matariki is the mother of six daughters. However in Greece there are only six sisters as one was punished for marrying a mortal.

Many Myths - Jack
Both Pleiades and Matariki have very different and special myths about why and how it happens. One myth in Maori has Tane Mahuta jealous of a bright star hurling the star and causing it to a splinter into seven pieces. One Greek myth has Zeus turning the daughters of Atlas into stars and placing them in the sky.

Overall we believe learning about Matariki helps us to understand and connect with Maori culture of the past in an interesting way. Some ways you could celebrate Matariki this year are learning about the myths, making kites and sharing kai during a hangi.

How to make coconut cream

Coconuts are a key ingredient in Samoan cooking. Every part of the coconut is used. You can eat the
flesh raw or use it for cooking, you can drink the juice, the shell makes a handy cup or, together with the
husks, you can fuel a cooking fire. The most widely used product from the coconut is coconut cream,
so let me describe how the cream is traditionally made.
coconut

You will need:
Coconut /popo
Knife
Scraper
Coconut husk
Bowl

Method
  1. First  collect all of your equipment you will need and place the coconut scraper on a chair
  2. Next crack the coconut shell with the back of the knife carefully while rotating the coconut shell.
  3. Pull the shell in half.
  4. Afterwards get the coconut scraper and scrape out the coconut flesh from the coconut shell but do
  5. not scrape too hard.
  6. Once the coconut flesh is scraped out of the shell gather the coconut flesh inside the coconut
  7. husk.
  8. Squeeze the coconut flesh and husk firmly twisting until the cream seeps out.
  9. Use the delicious coconut cream in all your favourite dishes.

Year 4 camping

Year 4’s camping
Dear Mrs Ritchie

I am writing to express my opinion about why year 4’s should also go to camp.

You may believe that year 4’s are too young to go to camp however I disagree.  I think year 4’s need to go to camp because during camp students can learn a lot of life skills.

For example archery can let you practise your aim, something that has to do with aiming at school is dodgeball.

Another activity is raft building. Raft building could help us with our teamwork with different people and can teach us how to tie knots.
As you will now realise, camp would teach year 4's important life skills that we could use now and not just in Year 6.

Please consider these ideas carefully and I look forward to hearing from you

Yours sincerely

Isaac

a letter from galipoli

A letter from Gallipoli
27 April 1918 Dear Neelansh
Here in Gallipoli it’s very hot and humid  and i'm in a war.
I’ve dug up my small trench underground . The trenches are made to make the soldiers comfortable while sleeping. I’m one of the snipers so every time I see an enemy move from a far distance I shoot them it’s hard to see them from a far distance .There a lot of shocks and traps in war. The war is vicious but there are only a few of soldiers left in the fight it’s very noisy during day but silent at night. The gun shots are very loud. I can hear grenades falling onto the ground making a splash of dirt as if it was water. Once an enemy soldier falls in our trench we kill them with our big knives. We were then outnumbered so we retreated and called for backup and more ships with more soldiers well that’s all I can write for now.
From your trusted friend,
Isaac.

school photos

Dear photographers

I am writing to express my opinion about you taking the school photos. I really like how you set up a hall of fame setting for the photos because people can see the pictures all together. You will understand that I really like how you set up the photos and that I really admire the organised arrangement of the boys and girls seatings for the school photos and the sibling photos.
I’m sure you will agree that you do amazing photos.  I'm absolutely certain that you should read my ideas most carefully you may or may not agree with my opinions , but please do consider them. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Yours sincerely , Isaac.

how to hongi.

The Hongi

What is a hongi?

A hongi is the pressing of noses, which symbolises the exchange of the breath of life

When does the hongi happen?

When the tangata whenua side indicates that the speeches are complete, the manuhiri speakers approach the tangata whenua to hongi

What to do.

1. First take your right hand and shake the persons hand firmly (no floppy fish hand).
2.keep holding persons hand. place left hand on right shoulder remember to make eye contact.
3.press noses together gently.
4.lift heads away gently and release hands. That is how you do the Hongi.
